We went on a bike tour of Copenhagen with Mike last week (late March). I am not a great cyclist and was a bit nervous, but I immediately felt safe in the care of Mike. He suited us up with bikes and helmets, explained how he does his tours - regular stops at key areas where he tells interesting and entertaining anecdotes about the city - and off we went. Copenhagen is made for cyclists, so we had absolutely no trouble with traffic or hills (there aren't any). Mike is a huge asset to the city of Copenhagen - he has a phenomenal knowledge of its history and deep devotion to its story. Throughout the day, Mike showed us parts of the city we simply wouldn't have seen any way else. By the time we got to the end, we'd learned a huge amount, had a spectacular day out, and made a friend in Mike. I can't recommend his tours more highly. Alexandra Hammond, London

FAQs

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is required to do the bike tour with Mike?
A: If you can bike, like the outdoors, you will be fine and enjoy the experience of biking the streets of the worlds bike capital.

Q: When does the season start for the bike tours?
A: The season runs from March  to December for the open tours.
However tours are also operated outside the season, but only when arranged in advance.

Q: Do I need to book my tour?
A: No, not if you come alone or in groups up to four people. Please just turn up in time - min. 10 minutes prior to departure if you need to rent a bike - at the point of departure.
For groups of people with plus four in the group, please ensure your participation by booking via email or phone.

Q: Do I need to be fit to do the tours?
A: Yes and no!
The City Tour can be done by everyone as long as you can bike. Its only 12 kms (eight miles) over three hours. Cruising speed between the stops (min. 12 stops) is 15 km per hour and that is slow. Its an easy ride and if you have fitness trouble here, then I advice you to see your doctor sooner rather than later!
The Back Door Tour is managable for most with a reasonable fitness level. It covers approx 23 kms (15 miles), flat terrain and shouldnt strain most folks.
The Contemporary City Tour is a bit longer than the classic City Tour, but in flat terrain it is an easy bike ride suiting all ages.
The Sunrise Ridazz Tour is manageable for all who can get out of bed before the sun rise!

Q: What is the tour language?
A: English.

Q: "When we stop, we talk and when we bike along, we let the city do the talking" - what does this mean?
A: Its what it reads and it means, that verbal guidance is only done when we are off the bikes to take in the sights, this is also where you can ask questions and make comments if you feel so. But when we bike, please dont expect any verbal guidance from your guide. The philosophy here is, that much of the beauty of exploring by bike is actually just to sit there on your bike, roll along and try to catch the spirit of the city and in my experience that is best achieved when there are moments of non verbal guidance. These "time-out" moments I believe myself are the most wonderful parts of a journey but if you feel like constant being told about this and that, you better look for a different option to discover Copenhagen!

Q: Is it difficult to locate the departure point for the tours?
A: No.
The departure point is in Turesensgade 10 next to Ørstedsparken in central Copenhagen - a 10 minute walk from City Hall Square at most.
Please check pages: City Tour, Countryside Tour, Back Door Tour and Sunrise Ridazz Tour and you will find a map with direction of how to get to Bike with Mike. Good idea is to make a print out of map.

Q: How can I reach Bike Mikes starting point from the Cruiseboat dock area?
A: Its trouble free to hop on City Bus # 26 nearby the docking area - one way fare is DKK 23,00 per person - and get off at City Hall Square. Then walk the 10 minutes walk at most to Turesensgade 10 wherefrom the Bike with Mike Tours depart. Please go to any of the Tour pages in the menu, i.e. City Tour and you will find a map with direction of how to best do the walk from City Hall Square.
Another option is to go by taxi - more expensive at approx. DKK 135,00 for the ride, which will take about 10-15 minutes.

Q: Are there any tours on public holidays?
A: Yes - also on public holidays!

Q: Are there any tours when it rains?
A: Yes - the city is beautiful too, differently beautiful, when it rains.
Please come prepared dresswise for a wonderful tour through the rain drops.

Q: Can children do the bike tours?
A: Yes, children are most welcome on the bike tours and many kids have already enjoyed the free wheeling. Yes, children can do the City Tour and the CPH Back Door Tour, but not the Countryside Tour. And yes, the parents are responsible for their children during the bike tours.
Having said all the above, it is my experience that most children enjoy the bike touring experience and a few dont. Parents ought to know best if their kids for 3 hours can concentrate, focus and behave with the respect of other people in a group. If yes the bike tour will be a positive experience for the children and parents - a true binding, long lasting family experience!
